(Renewables)

by Jeff Birkby

1. Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Network (EREN)

One of the most comprehensive sites for all things renewable, with a special emphasis on federal agencies and laboratories. Includes an "ask an energy expert" section, dozens of online fact sheets on solar, wind, geothermal, and biomass energy sources.

2. Solstice

A quirky mix of renewable energy policy links, multimedia tours of working renewable project, links to renewable energy associations, and renewable energy case studies from around the world. Also features lots of fun renewable energy education activities and curricula for kids of all ages.

3. Common Purpose for Clean Energy

Billed as "an ideal place to start your research on renewable energy," this proactive Website pushes you to battle for our energy future. Chock-full of timely information on renewable power sources, including daily headlines on renewable issues. But the site's real strength is its gentle push to get you personally involved, including painless methods for mailing pro-renewable cyberletters to your state and national representatives.

4. Real Goods Trading Corporation

The epitome of a great renewable energy Website--passionate, entertaining, and educational. These guys live their principles, and make money doing so! Loads of helpful information on residential home power systems, a virtual tour of their Solar Living Center, and online ordering of quality renewable energy products.

5. Nuclear Energy Institute

Brought to you by the industry that never met a radioactive particle it couldn't love. This Website raises slippery corporate journalism to a new art form, including such gems as "nuclear energy is the only method of making large amounts of electricity that sustains the world's growing population without polluting the planet." Don't miss their light-hearted dismissal of the Chernobyl disaster.
