Family Planning Saves Lives, by Barbara Shane for the Population Reference Bureau, provides an overview of how family planning helps to reduce infant and maternal mortality and the incidence of AIDS. Also looks at tremendous "unmet" need of family planning in the developing world (men and women who want family planning, but don't have access to it). You can order this report from The Population Reference Bureau. It is listed under the heading "Health/Reproductive Health."

The State of World Population is a detailed report produced annually by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). This year's report takes a special look at the human and economic development implications of the expansion of cities, especially in the developing world. Even though the report could have explored in greater depth the environmental cause and effect relationship to urbanization, it's still interesting and important reading.

Why Population Matters is a 55-page, spiral-bound resource guide published by Population Action International. The publication brings together the best of current research on the impacts of population pressures on environmental, economic, health and human well-being. Also reveals the myths and realities surrounding the US population assistance program.

(PIA is launching its Website--www.populationaction.org-- within the next few weeks. From there you will be able to access the whole document.)
