Information on this program (background, funders, programs, etc.) which is aimed at providing policy-oriented and field-oriented scientific evidence on the relationship between population and the environment.

Australian National University/Worldwide Demographics Program

Extensive site containing more than 140 links to demographic information and databases worldwide from leading universities, research institutions and international development agencies.

John Hopkins University Center for Communication Programs

Supplies authoritative, up-to-date information on family planning issues, policy and practices in the developing world. Of particular interest--Population Report (monthly journal), POPLINE (bibliographic database), and reports on media and communication programs used to promote family planning, reproductive health and family planning overseas.

Population Council

Good source of technical and medical reports on latest controversies, technologies and research findings related to contraceptives, family planning and reproductive health. On-line news releases are helpful.

Population Reference Bureau

Reader-friendly information on US and international population trends and issues. Check out on-line Population Today (monthly newsletter), Population Bulletin (quarterly reports), World and US Population Data Sheets, and media information.

Princeton University, Office of Population Research

Oldest population research center in the US. "Population Index" is an electronic bibliography of all demographic-related articles and publications written since 1986 -- search by author, subject, region. Unfortunately, articles do not include abstracts.

United Nations Population Information Network

Easy to navigate! Wealth of information on international conferences and meetings, population trends and protections, country-by-country and issue specific reports, and global databases.

U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)

USAID is the principal government agency responsible for implementing U.S. global family planing programs. Information on programs and strategies for work in more than 60 countries throughout the development world. It links to a few dozen population-related web sites at nongovernmental organizations, universities, research institutions and other donor agencies.

U.S. Bureau of the Census

One of the most reliable sources of population levels and projections by country and by region. Great source of data and reports on population, fertility, mortality, contraceptive use, etc. On-line International Database is a computerized databank containing statistical tables of information on 40 demographic and socioeconomic variables for all countries of the world.

The World Bank

Good source of information and reports on the implications of population change on social and economic concerns in the developing world.

World Resources Institute (WRI)

Here you will find Chapter 8--"Population and Human Development"--of WRI's highly-regarded annual report, World Resources 1996-97.
